"On hearing my name called, I didn't know what to think because of overwhelming excitement and joy. I felt a great delight as my efforts were accepted." In February 2004, Mr. Sukeyuki Iwatani, a 27-year-old Yoboku belonging to Church Headquarters, passed an audition to join the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and was appointed principal second violin. Soon to complete his one-year trial period, he will officially start serving in that position in February this year. Currently, there are four national orchestras based in Paris. One is the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, which is gaining not only domestic but also international recognition for its outstanding performance. Principals are the orchestra members who sit in the first row of their sections during a concert. Not only do their positions catch the most attention of the audience, but they are expected to lead the other members in their section. Commenting on this role, Mr. Iwatani said: "Previously, I only needed to focus on improving my own music and techniques, but now I feel great responsibility for unifying my section by working with the other members. It is very fulfilling." |
