    On September 10, Congo Brazzaville Church (Head Minister Pierre Bazebibaka) conducted a service to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding as well as to commemorate the enshrinement of the medo (symbol of worship). Approximately 260 local followers were in attendance to welcome the Shinbashira and his wife, Harue Nakayama, as well as Successor-Designate Daisuke Nakayama for the occasion. On the following day, the 11th, a ceremony was held to celebrate the establishment of the Women’s Association Congo Brazzaville Chapter and the Young Men’s Association Congo Brazzaville Chapter. By collaborating with the Boys and Girls Association and the two newly established chapters, the path in Congo has reached a significant turning point. Together with the three associations, the local followers can make firm strides toward the realization of the joyous life world.

    On August 8 (local time), Shohei Ono (24 years-old・Yoboku of Ohara Grand Church・Tenri University Graduate Student) earned Japan’s first men’s Judo Olympic gold at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in the -73kg final. The victory ended a drought for a Japanese men’s team that had not claimed Olympic gold since the 2008 Olympics. At the Olympic stage, Tenri Judo has not claimed a gold medal since Tadahiro Nomura won gold in Athens, three Olympics ago. As for Tenri University alumni, Ono is overall the fifth gold medalist.

    The High School Division of the Students Training Course was held for a week between August 9 and 15 with a total of 1,015 high school students. The participants took part in a variety of programs in which they studied the teachings, prayed for others and shared their thoughts and feelings with one another, thereby cultivating a sense of gratitude while fostering friendships.

    On January 26 at 10:30 a.m., the Oyasama 130th Anniversary service was solemnly performed at Tenrikyo Church Headquarters; The service commemorated the 130th year since Oyasama withdrew from physical life on the lunar calendar date of January 26, 1887.

    On this day, Yoboku and followers from both within Japan and from 29 countries and regions around the world, returned to Jiba to express their gratitude to Oyasama for guiding them during the past “three years, one thousand days” period, and reported the progress they made throughout the pre-anniversary season to her.

    After the Shinbashira read the service prayer, the Kagura service and the Dance with Hand Movements were joyously performed. The Shinbashira then delivered the sermon to the congregation. Following the sermon, the Shinbashira proceeded to the Foundress’ Sanctuary to offer a prayer to Oyasama.

    On October 26, the Autumn Grand Service was held in the Main Sanctuary, with the Shinbashira presiding as chief officiant. Approximately 90,000 people from Japan and overseas gathered and filled the Home of the Parent. The Shinbashira delivered his sermon, where he explained the meaning of the Kanrodai, and urged followers to continue to perform the tasks of the pre-anniversary season with an ever stronger sense of commitment in the remaining three months leading up to the 130th Anniversary of Oyasama.

    On October 27, the 91st Tenrikyo Young Men’s Association Convention was held in the Inner Courtyard of Church Headquarters. Approximately 11,000 association members gathered from Japan and overseas. Following Association President Daisuke Nakayama’s address, association members received words from the Shinbashira. They pledged with one another to bear the enthusiasm and passion as befits Arakitoryo, pioneers of the path and further promote their missionary activities.

    On October 24 after the evening service, the ceremony to replace the Kanrodai was solemnly conducted. The four worship halls were filled with Yoboku and followers that had gathered for the ceremony from both within the country and from overseas. After the replacement was completed, the Kagura Service and the Dance with Hand Movements were joyously performed. Worshipers joined in singing the Mikagura-uta in high spiris with the newly installed Kanrodai as the core.

    The Europe Chapter of the Young Men’s Association (Headed by Ronald Malbocs) celebrated its 30th anniversary on September 12 in the presence Daisuke Nakayama, president of the Tenrikyo Young Men’s Association. A total of 91 people from across Europe attended. On the 13th, local followers gathered at the Tenrikyo Europe Centre and held the 30th Tenrikyo Europe Reunion.

    From September 6 through 13, Tenrikyo Young Men’s Association (Headed by Daisuke Nakayama) conducted the Missionary Campaign Week for All Chapters. During this period, association members with different backgrounds-some work exclusively for the path, some have jobs, and some are students-performed missionary work in unity of mind.

    The International Meeting for Peace, sponsored by the Community of Sant’ Egidio, was held from September 6 through 8 in Tirana, Albania, drawing religious leaders, scholars, and government officials from many parts of the world to discuss world peace.

    Four Tenrikyo delegates, namely Honbu-in Noriaki Nagao, Europe Centre Head Yoshida Hasegawa, Dai-Rome Mission Station Head Hideo Yamaguchi, and Cologne Mission Station Head Yoshiro Shimizu attended the meeting. Serving as a session panelist, Honbu-in Nagao took the podium and shared a portion of the teachings.
