Sprinkling Fragrance and Doing Salvation Work

The Meaning of Sprinkling Fragrance and Doing Salvation Work

What is involved in sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work? Needless to say, it involves imparting God the Parent's intention to those who have not yet learned of it. However, sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work do not consist only in having people learn about God's intention. In fact, we are required to go so far as to exert great care and dedication in helping them live in accordance with God's intention and teachings, so that they will be able to savor the joy of living the Joyous Life day after day, which is the way of living that measures up to God the Parent's intention.

Relying on God's Workings Rather Than Human Knowledge or Strength

Our efforts to sprinkle fragrance and do salvation work will not bear fruit if we rely solely on our individual knowledge, strength, or skills. Only when we put our sincerity into working as instruments of Oyasama will God the Parent work to enhance the spiritual growth of Yoboku and raise more people into Yoboku.

Minds, Words, and Actions

We must not forget that the instruments we are endowed with to sprinkle fragrance and do salvation work are our minds, words, and actions.

Let us never forget that sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work require us to be absolutely sincere in practicing Oyasama's teachings.

It is not easy to attract people to the fragrance of the teachings. In order to accomplish this, we must first make a serious effort to nurture ourselves until we reach the point where people can entirely trust us. Otherwise, it will be impossible for us to attract them to the fragrance we sprinkle.

Conviction and courage are necessary to sprinkle fragrance and do salvation work. They become even more necessary when it comes to administering the Sazuke. Unless we are absolutely convinced of God the Parent's workings, we shall find it difficult to bring ourselves to administer the Sazuke.

Willingness to Help Others

Just look around yourselves. Surely, you will find people who are depressed because of physical problems. People get depressed even by small physical problems like a cold or a sprained ankle. You can certainly help these people by administering the Sazuke. If you have yet to receive the truth of the Sazuke, then you can help them by taking them to your church as readily as you would to a hospital. At your church, you can have them learn about God the Parent's teachings and have someone administer the Sazuke to them, thereby exerting your sincerity in helping them receive blessings. In fact, this requires only your willingness to help them. If only you have a will to help others, it should be easy for you to listen to people who have problems and show them a way of thinking and living that enables them to become joyous and spirited. These things you do are all the act of sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work. This is to say that to live our lives exactly in accord with the teachings is the most powerful and effective means of sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work.

Sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work are not the kind of work that is specifically designed for people who have special talents. They can be done by anyone who has a mind to do them. They do not demand any special qualification, special career, special educational background, or anything special whatsoever. All they require is our resolve to attain the mind of joyousness to live the Joyous Life and then to convey and spread the Joyous Life.

The Way to World Peace

Oyasama taught us that the replacement of the mind enables us to live our lives joyously. I am convinced that we must help people awaken to this by sprinkling fragrance and we must help them be saved from the very core of their being by doing salvation work. Sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work may appear too insignificant and too inadequate to bring about world peace. But in fact, there is no other method but these that we can adopt with conviction.

The world consists of various groups of people, each maintaining a different set of ideas and values. Yet no matter how much our ideas and values or customs and practices may vary from one another, all of us human beings are, without exception, potentially susceptible to physical problems or other troubles. Can these problems be solved on a collective basis? Surely, it is difficult to solve all of them together on a collective basis. If we want to solve all of them, there is no better way, I believe, than to continue making efforts to convey truth from heart to heart in such a way as to let it seep like water. It is this path that Oyasama taught us. Essentially, the objective of sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work is to help people with their personal human concerns. I believe, therefore, that these activities will be necessary as long as human beings exist.

The Purpose of Sprinkling Fragrance

We shall not be able to attract people to the fragrance of the teachings simply by, for instance, handing leaflets to passers-by. If we want to be successful in sprinkling fragrance, we must dedicate ourselves not only in body but also in mind no matter how many days or how many decades it may take. I should like you to be clearly aware of the enormous importance of how we use our minds to sprinkle fragrance.

The purpose of sprinkling fragrance is to let people awaken to the reason behind the existence of all things. By demonstrating to people the way of living in joy and in high spirits at all times, we are to help them see that there is a path that frees us from whatever sufferings or pains we encounter. In addition, we are to help them learn that God the Parent saves us because God the Parent is God of Origin, God in Truth, who created humankind, and because God the Parent is always with us in the world.

Even if we are very eager to sprinkle fragrance on people, they are not necessarily anxious for it. In fact, most of them could probably care less. Yet, we are to sprinkle fragrance even on these people in order to help them understand the truth of the teachings. But, unless we outdo them in terms of sincerity, courage, and energy, as well as enthusiasm, we shall not be able to sprinkle fragrance in a way that attracts them to the fragrance of the teachings.

Whether people accept the fragrance of the teachings or not is determined by the blessing of God the Parent and, thus, we need not be concerned with this. Of much greater importance is that we actually sprinkle fragrance. I should like you to be clearly aware that to sprinkle fragrance is the mission of Yoboku.

The Purpose of Doing Salvation Work

What is the purpose of doing salvation work? It is to have people learn about God the Parent's intention and help them receive God the Parent's blessings so that they will attain the realization that they are being saved and kept alive each day. In addition, those of us who do salvation work must exert our sincerity in helping people become determined to live in joy and in high spirits in accordance with God the Parent's intention.

The purpose of doing salvation work is to save people. However, it does not simply consist of curing their illness. Just because an illness has been cured does not mean that salvation work has been completed. If an illness has been cured as a result of the administration of the Sazuke, this will surely help both the administrant and the recipient become convinced of God the Parent's workings. Salvation work in its real sense, however, requires us to help people grow to the point where they become determined to join us in sprinkling fragrance and doing salvation work, thereby responding to God's intention with a mind intent on saving people.
