Overseas Department Seminar Draws 200 Participants from Overseas

On October 25, the Overseas Department Seminar, targeted primarily at church head ministers, fellowship heads, and their spouses in overseas countries, was conducted in East Right Wing 4 of the Oyasato-yakata building-complex, attracting approximately 200 participants.

Overseas Department Head Yoshiaki Mihama delivered the opening address, in which he referred to the Teaching's day of origin and the subsequent 50 years Oyasama had spent laying the path. He stated that, although in terms of the world as a whole this teaching has only spread to a limited number of places, the efforts of missionaries in overseas countries and their predecessors have enabled the path to make sure and steady progress.

He went on to say that we first need to sweep out our human thoughts in order to be saved, as indicated by a passage from Instruction Two that says, "Spiritual growth refers to the process of nearing the intention of the Parent." While admitting that this might be very difficult to accomplish, he proposed that if we follow the path with a firm resolution to melt into the mind of Oyasama, we will be able to savor the joy of seeing the intention of the Parent as if the haze cleared away.

He also expressed his concerns about the current world situation, saying that in many corners of the world, there are unceasing wars and conflicts in which people hate and hurt others. He explained that we face such ugly realities in our daily lives, all because of ignorance of the intention of God the Parent. Finally, he encouraged all members of his audience to make a determined effort to grow spiritually, saying: "The first year of the "three years, one thousand days" season leading up to the 120th Anniversary has passed so quickly. Let us make further efforts to continue to near the intention of the Parent and melt into the mind of the Parent."

After Rev. Mihama's address, Head Minister Xu Yan Cai-e of Zhen-ming Xin-ying Church in Taiwan and Head Minister Bae Suk Su of Dong Kwang Church in South Korea delivered lectures on their missionary experiences, entitled "Salvation Work Without Missing Any Opportunity" and "The Path to Respond to Parental Love" respectively.

The seminar, furthermore, presented a 30-minute video that summed up last year's activities in overseas countries including the Oyasama 120th Anniversary District Lectures, the convention held by the Brazil Chapter of Tenrikyo Young Men's Association commemorating its 50th anniversary, and the establishment of the first Tenrikyo church in Argentina.
